Origin is a study in structure.

At its center sits Dioscorea elephantipes, a caudiciform plant known for its sculptural, armored base, often called Elephant’s Foot. The patterned caudex resembles cracked earth or ancient stone, storing water within its geometry. It is not decorative foliage; it is architecture shaped by time.

Set into a hand-carved lava orb, the composition balances mass and restraint. The porous mineral surface contrasts with the structured caudex, creating a piece that feels elemental, grounded, and intentional. Every angle reveals texture. Every line serves a purpose.

This is a living sculpture: minimal, precise, and quietly powerful.

    • Light: Bright, indirect sunlight.

    • Water: Allow the lava rock and roots to dry completely between watering. Avoid waterlogged conditions to prevent root rot.

    • Dormancy: The plant may enter summer dormancy and lose its leaves for a few weeks. During this time, reduce watering significantly.

    • Temperature tolerance: Prefers temperate temperatures, ideally kept above 65°F (18°C) for optimal growth, but can tolerate temperatures as low as -4 °C.

    • Feeding: Use a diluted liquid fertilizer (¼ strength) once monthly during active growth.

    • Important: Keep the caudex exposed above the lava surface. Avoid constant moisture.
